5. Adjusting Recording levels in the Audio Studio
To use the recording feature in the Audio Studio your computer must have audio
input capability and a properly connected microphone. For information on
connecting and using a microphone, see the manual that came with your sound
card or computer.
Once youíve recorded you may find that the volume of your recorded
sound is either too soft or too loud (relative to the rest of the
sounds in Write, Camera, Action!). This may mean that youíre
recording controls need adjustment. The following suggestions
will help you adjust the recording level on your computer.
If youíre still having trouble contact the vendor of your sound
card or computer.
Windows 95 Users
a. Before you begin, check to see that your microphone is
properly connected to your sound card or computer.
b. Click on the Start button and navigate to Programs, then
Accessories, Multimedia, and finally click on Volume Control.
Then, from the Options menu select Properties. Make sure that
the line labeled Microphone (in the section labeled Show the
following volume controls) has a checkmark next to it. Click
the OK button. In the column labeled Microphone use the vertical
slider to increase or decrease the recording level of your microphone.
We also recommend that you turn on the Windows 95 Automatic Gain Control
feature. To turn this feature on:
a. From Volume Control dialog, go to the Options menu and select Properties.
Make sure the button labeled Recording has a checkmark next to it.
Also, make sure that the line labeled Microphone (in the section
labeled Show the following volume controls) has a checkmark next to it.
Click the OK button. From the Options menu select Advanced Controls.
Click the button labeled Advanced at the bottom of the Microphone column.
At the next screen make sure the line labeled either "AGC for WaveIn" or
"Automatic Gain Control" has a check mark next to it. You will need to
do this each time you restart your computer.
**Please Note - Certain sound cards use proprietary software which bypasses the
controls described above. If this is the case, you will not be able to access
the Volume Control dialog. For instructions on how to adjust recording levels,
refer to the documentation that came with your sound card.
Windows 3.1 Users
Most sound cards, running under Windows 3.1, come with their own mixer application.
Refer to your sound card manual for instructions on adjusting recording levels.
